The Creative Adventure
CREATE, DESIGN, & WRITE
What is art? The definition in Oxford Languages defines it this way: “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power.” That is a pretty good definition.
However, for me as a Christian, art is inspired by the creativity that God has placed around us and in us. Art evokes emotions both positive and negative. It brings smiles to lips. Fills hearts with joy. Makes strong statements. It shocks people. Brings freedom. It is personal. It is societal. Art is humanity expressed. And it gives a visual voice to the artist allowing people a glimpse of the world through their eyes.
My personal creative adventure began years ago at Camp Wohelo on the shores of Sebago Lake in South Casco, Maine. During my summers at camp, I began painting animals on blocks of wood as gifts for my family and friends back home. When I was eleven years old, I painted a swan on a rectangular block of wood adding hooks to the bottom to hang jewelry. I gave this artwork to my best friend, who almost 40 years later still has it hanging on her wall to hold her keys. That little block of wood is what inspired me to return to my creative roots a year and a half ago.
That is what art is all about. Memories, sharing, and timeless inspiration.

The Hermit Creative, is where you can see a glimpse of the world through my eyes. Here you will discover an eclectic collection of artwork, multimedia, photography, and writing inspired by God.
Each day I am in awe of His creation that surrounds me. When I read the Bible, word pictures are created in my mind which are transformed into Scripture Art. Capturing children’s hearts and joy in the “simple things” flows from my apple pencil and paint brushes. And my degree in Social Work, has created a passion in me to create artwork that expresses the painful parts of the human condition to be used as journaling prompts to promote the healing work that Jesus wants to do in people.
My hope is that you will join me on my creative adventure here at The Hermit Creative where I reside in my little home on the web. I look forward to spending time with you as I share my artwork, videos, and writing.
Blessings and healing,
WHAT Kirsten Paints
The Artistic Creations
I am primarily a digital artist. I hand paint watercolor, oil, acrylic, and pencil artwork on my iPad with an Apple Pencil using Procreate and Photoshop on my computer. Paint fumes give me a headache and I don’t like the messiness of traditional paints. Digitally painting is the perfect solution!
Visual representations of Scripture verses and Bible Concepts. The foundation for the work begins with either a photograph of a person or an original custom created 3D model. Then the image is composited and digitally painted to create unique Scripture Art.
Lately, I’ve been learning to traditionally paint with watercolors and acrylics. I will be offering some of my original traditional watercolors and acrylic practice art pieces for sale soon.
